I’m S. McKinley Akins, a multidisciplinary video creative + producer and sound designer. Raised in a preacher’s family, I absorbed the positive aspects of that environment—service, guidance, and the transformative power of storytelling—which now infuse every project.
Minister Akins Studio is my creative service focused on shaping motion and sound into immersive work. Blending expertise in editing, post-production, and sound design, my practice moves fluidly across social, digital, editorial, and experimental projects.
My journey spans from in-house work at Coach to collaborations with brands like Converse and Ssense, honing a distinctive ability to balance brand identity with creative innovation. Whether crafting high-end motion projects or dynamic behind-the-scenes recaps for social platforms, each project merges striking visuals with emotional texture to create a lasting feeling.
My personal studio work sits at the intersection of motion and sound, exploring questions of presence, identity, and emotional architecture. Balancing spontaneity, structure, and feeling, I create fashion-forward video art pieces, introspective self-portraits, and experimental soundscapes — each bringing a refined sensory depth to the experience. I’m interested in how sound and motion can capture what words often leave behind.
Based in NYC, I continue to evolve, offering a chic yet dynamic approach to every collaboration.
